Noise-Induced Hearing Loss
This mixed-media online course offers a comprehensive overview of occupationally-related Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). The unit combines short videos with interactive content, and will take approximately 1.75 hours to complete. The content is based on public health scenarios and clinical cases, with additional optional resources included to aid in your practice.
Accredited continuing education for physicians, PAs, nurses, other healthcare and public health professionals will be available upon course completion.

Learning Objectives
The objectives of the NIHL course are for learners to be able to:
- Describe the irreversible pathophysiological change associated with noise-induced hearing loss.
- Describe the difference in causation between conductive and sensorineural hearing loss.
- Describe the notable difference between an audiogram showing noise-induced hearing loss and one showing age-related hearing loss.
- List three examples of controls to mitigate workplace noise that correspond to levels of the industrial hygiene “Hierarchy of Controls”.
- Describe the importance of interprofessional collaboration in preventing and treating occupational noise induced hearing loss.
