Course Description
Effective leadership skills are required for success in the dynamic field of occupational health and safety, as regulations and best practices are ever-evolving. High impact leaders create energizing climates in the workplace and guide executive decisions at all levels of an organization. Today’s environmental health and safety leaders are looking for new ways to go beyond technical competency and inspire other members in their organizations to act as “change agents” to reduce workplace illnesses and injuries.

This one-day, multidisciplinary course is designed to take leadership theory into practice at a functional and organizational level. Participants will understand how their personal values and experiences inform their leadership, discover the process to build effective change, and demonstrate how to put leadership into action.

Course Objectives

After attending this course, participants will be able to:
• Identify personal values and leadership vision by drawing on skills gained from experiences, role models, and mentors.
• Define the process of creating effective change and leadership skills to break down silos and build stakeholder buy-in.
• Engage in exercises of conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, and effective communication.
• Assess practical approaches for identifying and resolving ethical situations in the workplace.
• Discuss practical case study examples of effective health and safety leadership across several industries.
