Welcome to University of Washington's DEOHS Continuing Education eLearning Page. We offer webinars, online learning modules and an eLearning certificate program to serve workers, employers and occupational health and safety professionals. These programs are funded partially by the Northwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety, and other training grants.
Complimentary, self-paced course series
This mixed-media online series serves as an introduction to a variety of important occupational diseases. Each 80-100 minute course is offered free of charge, and is designed to give clinical practitioners and public health professionals a comprehensive understanding of epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of a common occupational disease.
In each self-paced course, practitioners work through clinical cases and public health scenarios, describing both patient and workplace management for the disease at hand.
To promote integration of concepts, video and other interactive multimedia content are offered, along with periodic knowledge checks, to self-assess your learning. This series is designed to ensure that, upon completion of the individual units, students can effectively apply evidence-based principles to their practice.
Additionally, each unit will offer a UW certificate of completion and the ability to qualify for accredited Continuing Education for nurses, physicians, and other health care and public health providers from our join providership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In addition, the course will present clinicians with pertinent information about environmental and occupational exposures unique to agricultural communities in the Northwest.

A series of 1-hour online lectures on pertinent and emerging topics of interest to those who provide health care to agricultural communities. This course addresses current and emerging agricultural health hazards, using latest research on best practices to provide healthcare solutions and resources on current regional issues. The program brings together expert instructional and research faculty, covering topics such as pesticide exposures, asthma, heat-related illnesses, and musculoskeletal disorders.

This course is intended for Healthcare providers including physicians, nurse practitioners, occupational health nurses, and physician assistants who see workers with occupational injuries and illnesses.

This course will cover common risk factors and transmission modes of zoonotic diseases, offer best practices for prevention of disease threats, and share resources for infection prevention and control on the farm.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Discuss how human health care providers, veterinary providers, farm /producer management, and environmental management can best work together as a One Health team, both to prevent and respond to an infectious disease outbreak on a farm or other animal agricultural facility.
- Describe transmission routes to humans and the clinical presentation for a number of important zoonotic pathogens and diseases including highly pathogenic influenza Describe site-specific engineering controls and training to reduce exposure to specific infectious agents present in animal farming as well as chemicals used as disinfectants and depopulation methods.
- Explain the roles and mandates of local, state and federal agencies to foster community engagement and coordination in the case of an infectious disease outbreak.
This course will has recently completed a pilot course trial.

Regular cleaning is important for maintaining attractive and healthy conditions in early care and education (ECE) settings. However, some cleaning products are associated with health issues and hazards. Small children are particularly vulnerable from exposure to chemicals in cleaning products because of their size, development, and behaviors. Learn easy ways to keep your facility cleaned, sanitized and disinfected without using hazardous products that might adversely affect children and staff. (K7.8 C2, CDA1) 4 hours.
In the course you will learn to:
- Explain the health effects of chemicals found in common cleaning products and why children are more susceptible to the effects of toxic chemicals.
- Describe the difference between cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting.
- Identify harmful products to human health and the environment to clean, sanitize and disinfect.
- Evaluate the products used in your program for the presence of hazardous chemicals and how products might affect the environment.
- Identify steps to improve the cleaning practices and policies within your ECE program.
The team at the Molecular Design Research Network (MoDRN) has developed a series of modules designed for undergraduate science and mixed-major/non-major classrooms to introduce concepts of green chemistry and sustainable chemical design. These are called the MoDRN:U Modules. The overall goal of these materials is to engage undergraduate students with educational concepts and activities that will aid dissemination of scientific principles relevant to the design of safer, next-generation molecules.
